In order to locate places accurately a net work of line are drawn on the globe. The horizontal lines are the lines of latitudes are the vertical ones are and the lines of longitudes. These lines intersect each other at right angles are create a net work called a grid or graticute.

Latitude is an angle which ranges from o degrees at the equator to 90 degrees north to south at the poles.

Lines of constant latitude or parallels, run east west as circles parallel to the equator.

Latitudes is used together with longitude to specify the precise location of features on the surface of the earth.

Grid is not rectangular shape ...

The longitudes and latitudes intersect at any place , the inner angles of grid more than right angle (2) and less than 90 degrees (2)

any rectangle or square forms with two pairs of parallel lines

here the latitudes are parallels but longitudes are not parallels 3d globe with a coordinate grid meridian and vector image on VectorStock | Coordinate grid, 3d globe, Vector
